Bone Brewhouse Instant Chicken Bone Broth
Over the past year, I’ve noticed a growing number of instant bone broth products popping up on Amazon. The unique format and convenience intrigued me, and I thought it might make for an interesting savory alternative to whey protein.
Late last year, I picked up a box for $8.23 CAD on Amazon, though the price has since increased to $9.99 at the time of writing. At over $2 per packet for just 10g of protein, it’s definitely pricier than your average protein bar, which typically offers around 20g of protein.
First impressions? It lives up to its name—it definitely tastes like soup. The ginger and lemongrass flavors are prominent, with a subtle hint of coconut chicken aroma. The flavor profile reminds me of an instant ramen soup base, but with the added benefit of protein.
That said, I struggle to find a consistent use case for this product. When and where would I regularly drink it? I wouldn’t consume two packets at a time, and while the taste isn’t bad, it’s not so good that I’d be eager to drink it often. With only 10g of protein per packet, it’s not a standout option post-workout—unless you’re pairing it with a meal. As a snack, there are plenty of higher-protein, better-value alternatives available.
I can see this appealing to those who are lactose intolerant or experience bloating from whey, but for me, it’s more of a middle-of-the-road novelty item.
